On Jan. 28th, as a part of Family Fun Night event, a session of the Speaker Series was held at Bond. Thanks to Bond Parent Council, guest speaker Steve Chapelle was invited to give a workshop about “Parenting the Social Media Generation”.
Compared to the traditional parenting, parents nowadays are facing many challenges. One is trying to keep up with all the changes in technology. “How can we deal with this situation?” Many parents wondered the same question. Steve Chapelle, an Online Information Management Specialist, shared a useful and informative session with Bond parents. He discussed with parents different methods to manage how children could use social media properly.
“What I recommend is to attend educational seminars twice a year. The seminars will provide helpful techniques to minimize the risk for your children and the whole family,” he added, “and the techniques to reflect the new trends, such as what people are doing and what they’re not doing any more, so parents can stay tuned in.”
When asked about the age limitation of children using social media, Mr. Chapelle mentioned that the important thing should be letting children know how to use social media safely and know the responsibilities required at all times.
