After months of preparation and rehearsals, 23 students from Bond’s Drama Club produced the popular Robin Hood: A British Pantomime on stage on May 26th.
“I’m so glad to see staff and parents come to watch these performances from some of the most talented young actors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with.” said Mark Rodrigues, the Bond Drama Teacher and the Director of this show. “The show is a testament to their commitment and I could not be more proud of what they have achieved.”
Mr. Rodrigues mentioned it is customary in British pantomimes to have the dashing male hero played by a female, and the comical mother character played by a male. “The genders of some of the other principal characters are sometimes swapped as well.” he added, “Musical numbers are included with the choice of songs varying from production to production.
The play itself is a family friendly comedy filled with song, dance, and many terrible but good puns. The audience is also a “character” in the show as they are encouraged to participate when the characters on stage prompt them to. Mr. Rodrigues said that he did not shy away from any of these traditions, so the audience was invited to help their heroes and boo their villains.
A sincere thank you goes to all of the parents and students who dedicated their time to make this show a great success!
