In recognition of National Bully Awareness Week, Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) students took a stand against bullying. Grade 12 students dressed as “Bystander Superheroes” to inspire younger children to step up when they see bullying.
Students organized a week of events focused on bringing this important issue to the forefront, empowering all members of the STS community to play a role in building and reinforcing positive relationships, and preventing bullying.
Students from Grades 1 to 12 signed up to “Take the Pledge” - all STS students, faculty and parents are encouraged to stand up when they see bullying occur and signed a large banner.
Students were also given “Be a Spartan – stand up to bullying” wrist bands. Middle School students were involved in activities and discussions on various aspects of peer relationships with regard to bullying.
Parents were encouraged to use this opportunity to talk to their children about their role in building positive relationships with their classmates.
