College Prep Internal - CPI an NDG-based private English language, culturally diverse, non-sectarian school serving students from Grades 5 to 11 held its annual science fair December 5th. The school was founded in 1944, and its approach mixes traditional educational methods with the use of modern technology to teach subjects like math and the sciences.
CEO Ursulene Farmer-Mora pointed out the fair encourages students who want to pursue a career in science. Parents, relatives, family friends, judges from C.P.I. and other educational institutions, and officials from various consulates were invited for the event.
“Some of our elementary Grade 5 and 6 students were given the opportunity to present their knowledge of electromagnets and acids and base.” “Headmaster Mark Diaczun said the students were well spoken and had mastered the scientific concepts.”
Several projects involved medicine, computers and aerospace technology. “It is always a pleasure to encourage young minds to expand,” Ms. Farmer-Mora says.
New students were also encouraged.
“Children who are here for their first year in Canada, were told they are part of our family, and we paired them with someone who was here for a longer period.
They did very well, and that’s the platform for success. You have to start from somewhere.”
Ms. Farmer-Mora said the school’s educational platform helps students develop self-confidence. “They employ both intellect and imagination in the creation of new ideas that may ultimately foster the development of science and technology.”
C.P.I.’s next major event will be an Internal Day, being held just before the Christmas holidays. “This is a celebration of the students’ diverse cultures.”
