The SMV (Schüler Mit Verantwortung) is a council organized by students that represent all the students of AvH from grades 5-12. We (Michael & Ronny) are the ones who lead the student council, as we have been elected as student representatives by our fellow peers at the beginning of this school year. Every month we, along with the individual class officers (equally elected amongst classmates), hold student council meeting, where we share ideas and opinions. Class officers represent their classes, by reporting on issues they have noticed in their class and, as student representatives, we report back to them on school events and other news. This year we have created a website for students, so that they can stay connected to all the news and communicate to us in online forums. All in all, the student council serves as body that represents the students opinions and unites the students as one.
Another role that the student representatives have, is to organize events for students. This year we have organized many events, like the Terry Fox Run in September, with which we were able to fundraise $2800 for the Terry Fox foundation. We also hold events with the main purpose of students having fun. Over the year we have already held two school dances and a Halloween party. In the next month, we plan to hold a one-week event promoting environmental awareness at our school. This will be a week when students come to school through environmentally sustainable transport or help clear the school yard of garbage. At the end, we hope to inspire the students to act more environmentally conscious in the future.
We became student representatives with a motto: Go Green. Have Fun. Stay Connected. Now that the school year is almost over, we can look back and say that we have accomplished our objective. Furthermore the student council will keep giving students a voice and work towards a goal of creating a better student life.
