Andrea Chang, a TMS Grade 12 student, is one of only two students this year in a select group of semi-finalists to receive an honour citation from the Loran Scholars Foundation, a Canadian charitable organization that awards our country's largest undergraduate merit award on the basis of character, commitment to service, and leadership potential.
Andrea is one of 5,089 promising students from across Canada nominated for this scholarship. She submitted a written application which included essays, transcripts, and descriptions of her leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and community service work. From that highly competitive applicant pool, Andrea was among the top 10% of students selected as a semi-finalist for the scholarship. After attending a full day where she participated in four interviews, along with 500 other students from Canadian schools, Andrea was selected as a recipient of an honour citation, distinguishing her at a regional level.
When she heard of the news, Andrea said, “The Loran Foundation looks for integrity, courage, compassion, determination, and a high level of personal autonomy. In these ways, they look to award students who have the potential to be great leaders in their lives. I am honoured to have been considered for this opportunity and look forward to applying my experiences at TMS to my studies at university next year.
This is an incredible achievement for Andrea who will be applying to International Relations Programs at university. Congratulations from the entire TMS Community!
