On April 25, 2019, Havergal celebrated a special Founders’ Day in honour of our 125th anniversary at St. Paul’s Bloor Street church.
Founders’ Day is an annual event at Havergal that celebrates the laying of the corner stone of our present Upper School building, which was laid on April 23, 1926. To commemorate this event, the school community gathers at St. Paul’s Bloor Street to remember our history on or around April 23 each year.
This year’s service included a welcome from Board Chair and Old Girl Martha Simmons (Class of 1999) and our traditional address by Principal Helen-Kay Davy. To celebrate our 125th anniversary, we heard a reading from our first Principal Ellen Knox, performed by Michelyn in Grade 10, and reflections from Elena in Grade 12 and Old Girl Teresa Woods Snelgrove (Class of 1964) on their years at Havergal. Soloist Sophia in Grade 12 and our Primary Choir provided the musical performances. The daisy boutonnieres worn by our Class of 2019 Grads were a gift from the Havergal College Old Girls Association to mark their passage from students to Old Girls, and to share with the Havergal community the significance of Founders’ Day.
