On January 23, Linda Middaugh from Canadian Women for Women in Afghan (CW4WAfghan) spoke at Havergal's Upper School Prayers about the lack of education for girls in Afghanistan. CW4WAfghan is a non-religious, non-political, registered charity in Canada with the goals of advancing education and educational opportunity for Afghan women and their families and to educate Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan.
Less than 50% of girls attend school in Afghanistan, not because of a lack of interest, but because of a lack of trained female teachers to teach them. Havergal student Susanna Manziaris is working with Linda Middaugh and others at CW4WAfghan through her organization GirlsHelpingGirls to support the education of women and girls in countries in need.
Havergal thanks Linda Middaugh for taking the time to raise awareness at Havergal about the educational needs of girls in Afghanistan, and to Susanna Manziaris and the Institute at Havergal for hosting this speaker at the Upper School.
